Lobelia Herb is named after the botanist Matthias De Lobel. It is an annual or biennial herb- grows in every two years. The herb grows one or two feet high. The stalks of the lower leaves and flowers are pale violet-blue in color and tinted pale yellow within. There are species of Lobelia herb which are grown throughout the English gardens just for the beauty of these flowers. They sprout out as scarlet, violet and blue.
The herb specifically is yellowish green in color with a pungent odor which tastes very close to that of tobacco. The acrid as well as burning qualities are also similar to a large extent. Lobelia herb is often termed as Indian tobacco and was prescribed by various doctors of North America for a number of purposes.
The intake of Lobelia herb is restricted for pregnant women as it may cause nausea and vomiting.
